UK Government introduces new bill to support SAF
A bill to support sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the UK is set to be introduced. King Charles made the announcement of the new ‘Revenue Support Mechanism Bill’ during his speech at the state opening of parliament on July 17, 2024. “We are pleased that the new government has signalled its continued backing of SAF production,” said Karen Dee, chief executive of AirportsUK. “This will enable aviation to reduce its carbon emissions, to grow sustainably, and support economic growth in every region of the UK through new jobs, new investment and new connectivity to global markets.” This new bill comes after the July 2022 government pledge to introduce a SAF mandate equivalent to at least 10% of jet fuel to be made from sustainable sources by 2030.
