ITA Airways has become the latest airline to announce a resumption of flights to Israel, with the Italian flag-carrier set to recommence its Rome to Tel Aviv service on February 1, 2025.
The airline said in a statement that flights would be “gradually resumed”, initially with one daily frequency, increasing to two daily services from February 16, 2025. ITA noted that this would be subject to the “evolution of the geopolitical scenario”.
“The restart of flights between Tel Aviv and Rome was also possible thanks to cooperation with Italian and Israeli authorities and it is strategically important for ITA Airways as it strengthens the commercial, social and cultural relations between the two markets,” the airline said.
This comes days after Germany’s Lufthansa Group - which finalised a €325 million ($337.6 million) deal on January 17, to acquire 41% of ITA - noted that its group of airlines would resume operations to Tel Aviv from February 1, 2025.
These flight resumptions come after a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas following 15 months of conflict in the region, which forced dozens of airlines to cease operations to cities such as Tel Aviv.
