VietJet Air is planning to expand its fleet to 87 aircraft this year as a part of the airline’s annual expansion plan. The fleet expansion resolution was passed during the annual general meeting
“The General Meeting of Shareholders approved the plan to increase the fleet to 87 aircraft including the Airbus A330 widebody fleet with nine aircraft to operate 139,513 flights, and transport 25.7 million passengers,” the airline said in a statement post the meeting.
The airline carried 20.5 million passengers on 116,261 flights in 2022.
During the meeting, the shareholders also agreed to negotiate with Airbus and Boeing to ensure timely deliveries of aircraft orders, optimise operations, find financial solutions to cut costs, and improve efficiency
The shareholders also voted for a plan that achieves consolidated revenue of $2.15 billion for 2023, with an expected net profit of $43.5 million.
In 2022, the airline reported total revenue of $1.73bn with an increase of 212% from 2021. In spite of an increase in revenue the airline posted a loss of $90 million citing high fuel costs and supply chain issues, as compared to $5 million profit posted in 2021.
