US Airlines' used 3.5% more fuel in July 2024, compared to pre-pandemic levels in July 2019. According to the US Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), airlines in the country also used 3.1% more fuel over June 2024. Fuel consumption totalled 1.7bn gallons of fuel.
Cost per gallon in July 2024 was up four cents, or 1.6%, over the previous month, as well as up 59 cents, or 29.9%, over July 2019.
The agency reported that total July fuel expenditure was $4.47bn - up 4.7% from the previous month and 34.5% over July 2019.
Domestic fuel consumption increased 3.1% in the month over June, while increasing 3.5% from July 2019.
