A drop in demand for services to Japan has finally forced United and Continental airlines to reduce flights between the US and Japan. Both airlines will cut capacity by 10% in April and 14% in May.
Spokeswoman Julie King said the cuts were made “because of the measurable decline in demand for travel between the two countries,” but she wouldn’t put a percentage figure on the drop-off.
American Airlines has also announced it will cut two of its six daily flights to Japan next week until late April.
Hawaiian Airlines has confirmed that Japan bookings for the next month are 20% below expectations but that it did not plan to reduce flights to Tokyo, and still expects to launch service in July to Osaka.
