Electrification and automation technology provider ABB has signed with an agreement with Cap Clean Energy to support production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in Canada, exploring how integrated automation, electrical and digital technologies can improve efficiency at biofuel facilities.
“Together, we will work on enabling the production and delivery of SAF and RD into strategic North American markets, supporting society with more sustainable energy and allowing the aviation industry to achieve its net goals,” said Steve Polvi, CEO of Cap Clean Energy.
Once operational, Cap Clean Energy’s facilities (located in the Canadian provinces of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta) will produce SAF from cereal crop by-product feedstocks, as well as incorporating carbon capture and storage technology. ABB will employ its AAB Ability distributed control system and eHouse modular substation solutions to help optimise the facilities, with the plants’ modular approach capable of rapid production scale-up in the future.
