Start-up airline plans to commence operations with Silver Airways' former assets

Private equity firm Argentum has filed a joint application with Florid-based Silver Airways seeking approval from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) to transfer Silver Airways' certificates, exemptions, and operating authorities following the acquisition of the airline’s assets through bankruptcy proceedings.

The application, submitted on June 30, 2025, also includes Argentum’s notice of intent to resume scheduled air transportation under the Argentum Airways name.

Silver Airways originally filed for Chapter 11 protection in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Florida on December 30, 2024, with the airline describing the move as a step toward ensuring a "sustainable future" for its operations.

The regional US airline operated flights between Florida, the Southeast US and The Bahamas.

In May, Silver Airways had lined up a bid of nearly $5.8 million for nearly all of its assets, after it filed an emergency motion seeking court approval for the sale.

This new requested transfer comes after the bankruptcy court issued an order on June 19, 2025, approving an Asset Purchase Agreement (APA) and the sale of Silver’s business and assets, effective immediately. The transaction was finalised on the same day.

Silver Airways, which held certificates for interstate and foreign scheduled air transportation, ceased operations on June 11, 2025, “eight days prior to the approval by the Bankruptcy Court of the sale of the assets to Argentum,” the firm said in its filing.

Argentum also noted that the sudden termination of Silver Airways warrants the company’s request for authority to resume operations with the assets and business it acquired pursuant to the court’s sale order and the APA.

Argentum Airways has not yet finalised its operational plans for providing interstate and foreign air transportation. Initially, it will likely operate one ATR aircraft, with plans to increase to two aircraft in the fourth quarter of its first full year of operations.

The airline is considering offering scheduled services on certain routes previously served by Silver Airways, such as between Florida and the Bahamas. Additionally, Argentum Airways is looking into providing scheduled service within the State of Alaska using ATR aircraft, supplementing Sterling’s inter-Alaska scheduled service.
