South African Airways appoints new CEO

South African Airways (SAA) has announced the appointment of Zuks Ramasia as its new acting chief executive, effective immediately.

It was reported last week that Vuyani Jarana will no longer serve as CEO, although he will be available with transitional support to the board and management for the duration of his notice period - which ends in August.

Ramasia, who is currently general manager for operations at the carrier, is said to be an “experienced executive with an extensive aviation background”.

A statement said: “The board has commenced a search, domestically and globally, for a permanent CEO with appropriate experience and expertise to stabilise the company and to oversee the implementation of the long-term turnaround strategy.”

The move is a part of the airlines long-term turnaround strategy which has been designed to turn the fortunes of the airline around.
