Solarig announces SAF plant in Spain
Alternative energy developer, financier, builder and operator Solarig is one step closer to making a 116,000 sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in Spain a reality, having reached an agreement with SOMACYL (Sociedad Pública de Infraestructuras y Medio Ambiente de Castilla y León) to acquire the site. The ‘NUMABTIA SAF’ plant, located in the municipality of Garray, will have an annual output rate of 90,000 tonnes of SAF when operational in 2028. It will combine provision for two production pathways (power-to-liquid and gas-to-liquid), with all the processes in the plant to be powered by renewable energy. President and CEO of Solarig Miguel Ángel Calleja explained: “Today Solarig is announcing a pioneering project in the world with a fully circular approach: it involves the use and recovery of biogas produced from our agricultural and livestock waste together with renewable resources… By combining these local resources with the latest technology, Solarig will be able to join the sustainable fuel economy that is now emerging”. The plant will require an estimated €780 million ($847 million) and construction is expected to start in 2026.
