The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially validated Ryanair’s short-term emission reduction target.
The SBTi helps to develop standards, tools and guidance which allow companies to set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions targets.
“Ryanair’s ambitious decarbonization targets are supported by our increasing use of sustainable aviation fuels and the arrival of new fuel-efficient aircraft in our fleet,” said Thomas Fowler, Ryanair’s director of sustainability and finance.
He added: “Last year, we revised our decarbonization target following the order of 300 Boeing MAX-10 aircraft (21% more seats, 20% less CO2). We are delighted that the SBTi has confirmed that this target is in line with the levels needed to meet the Paris Agreement goals.”
The Irish carrier’s short-term target aligns with the aviation trajectory defined by the SBTi and is consistent with a 1.5°C pathway. This commits the Group to reducing its carbon intensity by 27% by 2031.
