As tensions continue to escalate within the Middle-East - Qantas is set to operate two non-stop flights between Cyprus and Sydney - in order to help Australians in Lebanon return home.
The first service is expected to depart Larnaca in Cyprus on October 7, 2024, arriving in Sydney the following day. The second direct service is expected to depart two days later on October 9, 2024, with both services being operated by the airline's 787 aircraft.
The carrier will operate these assisted-departure flights free of charge on behalf of the Australian Government, with no cost to those travelling on the flight.
A spokesperson for the airline said: “These assisted-departure flights will impact some customers booked to travel on our international network, and customers are being contacted directly with alternative travel arrangements. We’re working to minimise the impact as much as possible and appreciate their understanding.”
The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is coordinating registration for Australians wanting to return home.
