Strong demand among business and leisure passengers has increased Norwegian’s May traffic figures to 2,641,666, an increase of 265,515 compared to the year-ago period. Norwegian’s load factor also increased from 84.9% to 88.3%. The increase is attributed to total traffic growth (by revenue per seat kilometre, RPK) up by 15 percentage points, capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASKs), up 11 percentage points and the continuation of its fleet renewal programme.
The airline took delivery of 21 brand new aircraft in 2016, including a 737-800 in May. Norwegian operated 99.8% of the scheduled flights in May, with 81.3% departing on time.
“We are very satisfied that an increasing number of business and leisure passengers are choosing Norwegian,” says Norwegian CEO Bjørn Kjos. “On intercontinental routes in particular, we are experiencing increasingly strong demand as we continue to launch new routes and destinations, not least between London Gatwick and the US.”
