Lufthansa is suspending all services to Kazakhstan during the upcoming winter period due to a shortage of aircraft.
The German airline will continue to operate flights from Frankfurt to both Almaty and Astana until operations cease between October 26, 2025, and March 29, 2026.
A Lufthansa spokesperson confirmed to Airline Economics that the carrier is working to evaluate and optimise its entire route network, while factoring in seasonality patterns and limited aircraft availability.
“Like many airlines worldwide Lufthansa is affected by aircraft delivery delays and supply chain disruptions slowing down fleet renewal and growth,” the spokesperson added.
Currently operating five weekly flights to Kazakhstan, these services are currently served using A330-300 and A340-300 aircraft. Lufthansa has recently postponed the retirement of its A340-600 fleet from 2025 to 2026, as it awaits the delivery of additional widebody jets.
The Lufthansa Group expects to take delivery of 26 aircraft in 2025, with the company’s orderbook totalling 240 aircraft, including 100 long haul jets.
The airline did not clarify whether operations will resume to Kazakhstan in 2026.
