IATA has released data for June of this year which shows global air cargo markets showing continued strong annual growth in demand.
A general overview of the month shows that total demand, measured in cargo tonne-kilometres (CTK’s), rose by 14.1% compared to levels in June of last year. Again, in comparison to the same time last year total capacity, measured in CTK’s, rose by 8.8%.
""Air cargo demand surged in June. Strong growth across all regions and major trade lanes combined for a record-breaking first-half performance in terms of CTKs,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s director general. “Maritime shipping constraints and a booming e-commerce sector are among the strongest growth drivers, air cargo looks to be on solid ground to continue its strong performance into the second half of 2024.”
Globally, Asian-Pacific airlines saw the largest increase in air cargo demand when compared to the same period in 2023 with an increase of 17%.
