Car hire brand Avis and EverCharge, a provider of large-scale electric vehicle (EV) charging devices and management systems, have launched "a significant number" charging stations at George Bush International Airport in Houston.
The stations will power the Avis and Budget fleets of EVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) available for rent at the airport. The stations feature EverCharge’s patented load balancing software which it said "intelligently" allocates available power based on each car's need.
The software, called SmartPower, means Avis can install more stations than would be available with older charging systems.
"At Avis Budget Group, we believe the road to electrification rests on a foundation of charging infrastructure. We’re excited to be partnering with the SK Group to advance our strategy and we’re proud to showcase this large-scale operation at the George Bush International Airport in Houston as a proof point of the developments to come," said Joe Ferraro, Avis Budget Group president and chief executive.
