Global Sky has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VoltAero, becoming the launch customer for its Cassio electric-hybrid aircraft family in Southeast Asia. The agreement - announced at the Bali International Air Show this week - includes a pre-order for 15 aircraft.
As VoltAero’s first customer in the region, Global Sky aims to collaborate with the company to define routes and operations for the Cassio planes. The aircraft are designed to support Southeast Asia’s growing aviation infrastructure and align with the region’s focus on adopting new technologies.
“Cassio is perfectly matched with Southeast Asia’s rapidly maturing regional aviation infrastructure, while also meeting the region’s focus on incorporating new technologies to evolve its business and economic goals,” said Christian Duhain, CEO of Global Sky. “We joined forces with VoltAero because I have been impressed by the company’s realistic and attainable development goals for Cassio, bringing together personalities who helped launch the era of e-aircraft.”
VoltAero’s Cassio 330 - the first configuration set for production - offers flight ranges suitable for regional routes such as Jakarta to Bali, Singapore to Phuket, and Manila to Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Jean Botti, VoltAero’s CEO and chief technology officer, highlighted the aircraft’s unique features, including its patented dual-source electric/hybrid propulsion system, which enhances safety during over-water flights, and its low-noise operation, making it suitable for ecologically sensitive airports. The Cassio is also designed for cargo delivery during after-hours flights and for medical airlift missions, with a large cabin and single-pilot certification for business and private operators.
The collaboration marks a significant step in the development of electric-hybrid aviation in Southeast Asia.
