Former chairman of Afriqiyah Airways imprisoned
The Attorney General office of Libya has issued an order to imprison the former chairman of the board of Ariqiyah Airways. According to Libya Observer, the former chairman has been charged with ""squandering public funds worth $950,000 Libyan ($195,000 USD) and facilitating the illegal seizure of $30,000 ($6100 USD) by one of the company’s agents."" Further reports by the newspaper say that an investigation revealed the unnamed official ""disbursed an amount of $950,000 without submitting any documents or invoices proving the disbursement. He also facilitated one of the agents’ obtaining illegal material benefits, ignoring controls that guarantee protection of public money"". ""The Office of the Attorney General underscored that these actions caused serious damage to public funds, which necessitated issuing a pretrial detention order against the accused to continue investigations and uncover the circumstances of the case"".
