Burges Salmon advises Firefly on financing to boost sustainable aviation fuel technology

UK-based law firm Burges Salmon has advised sustainable aviation fuel developer, Firefly Green Fuels (Firefly), on its latest funding.

The funding came from Builders Vision, a team of investors and philanthropists aiming to deliver key financing to accelerate carbon mitigation technologies.

This will enable Firefly to accelerate the development and commercialisation of its proprietary technology, which converts biosolids – organic matter recycled from sewage – into drop-in sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and supports the expansion of its operations at pace.

Firefly plans for its UK-based facility to be commercially operational by the end of the decade.

“We are thrilled to welcome Builders Vision as a key partner in our journey to redefine how the world thinks about waste and fuel,” said James Hygate, CEO of Firefly. “Their support validates the potential of our technology to disrupt the SAF market and underscores the critical role that innovative financing plays in addressing climate change.”

Burges Salmon’s cross-disciplinary sustainable transport team advised Firefly on the transaction, with banking and finance matters led by partner Rachael Ruane and senior associate Bernard Ehigiamusor. Corporate support was provided by partner Alex Lloyd and senior associate Niall Mackle.
