Etihad to cut routes, says CEO

Peter Baumgartner, chief executive officer of Etihad Airways, has told CNBC that the airline is solid despite operating in very challenging times. The airline posted an annual loss of$1.87 billion in 2016, as local markets contracted and overcapacity soared adding pressure on yields. Even so, Baumgartner said the airline still operated with solid load factors.

Etihad plans to suspend flights to Edinburgh, Scotland and Perth, Australia, as part of a business review.

"This is a constant evaluation that is not a one-time cut and then you are done for the next 10 years. This is a very agile business in a very agile environment, so it's kind of business as usual," he said.
