After a long wait of easing of pandemic restrictions, the Chinese aviation sector is back on its road to recovery. In January 2023, the Chinese civil aviation industry carried around 39.78 million passengers recording a rise of 34.8% as compared to January 2022, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
The passenger turnover has recovered to 74.5%of the same period in 2019.
Air China recorded a rise of 62.2% growth in passenger traffic as compared to same time last year while China Southern that its passenger turnover in January calculated by revenue passenger kilometers increased by 44.62 percent year-on-year.
China Eastern also recorded a 43% rise in passenger traffic year-on-year.
The Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport recorded its single-day passenger traffic figure over 156,000 during the Spring Festival holidays.
It is estimated that by the end of February, Shenzhen airport will have nearly 120 international passenger flights per week, doubling from the end of January.
