The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) has stated that both Chicago’s O’Hare and Midway airports are poised for their busiest ever summer seasons, with airlines scheduling nearly 17.8 million departing seats from the two airports from June through to August.

The CDA stated this represents a 7% increase in comparison to last year and a 4% increase from 2019. Both O’Hare and Midway are expected to connect travellers to 265 destinations worldwide, up from 250 last summer.

“My administration remains committed to supporting investments that keep our airports among the most connected and competitive in the world,” said Brandon Johnson, mayor of Chicago.

American and United Airlines, the largest hub carriers at O’Hare, have both recently announced significant expansion plans from Chicago. American will operate 25% more seats and 22% more departures from O’Hare this summer, while United said it would operate more seats out of Chicago in 2025 than at any point in the past two decades.
