The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has published final proposals to accept Gatwick Airport Limited’s (GALs) proposed commitments to airlines and service target improvements for the next four years.
These new commitments include a price cap, which will limit how much the airport can charge airlines, ensuring reductions in airport charges.
A statement from the CAA said that its support for Gatwick’s commitments is conditional on the airport continuing to make progress with its plans for capacity expansion.
The CAA emphasised that capacity improvements at Gatwick are crucial for passengers and will bring benefits to consumers.
Gatwick’s expansion project is now at the decision-making stage, with the UK Secretary of State currently reviewing the planning inspectorate’s report. A final decision is expected soon.
Earlier this month, London’s Heathrow's chief executive officer, Thomas Woldbye confirmed that the airport will submit its proposal to the UK government for a third runway this summer. This announcement by the airport boss came just weeks after UK chancellor Rachel Reeves backed plans for a new runway at the European hub.
