Republic Airways has confirmed the retirement of its long-serving CEO, Bryan Bedford, after more than 25 years leading the airline.
During Bedford’s tenure, Republic grew to become one of the largest regional airlines in the US, operating nearly 1,000 daily flights on behalf of airline partners including American Airlines, Delta and United.
US President Donald Trump tapped Bedford to serve as the next Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) administrator in March. Following the announcement of Bedford’s nomination, airlines and industry groups publicly backed the decision.
On June 25, 2025, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation voted to advance Bedford’s nomination as FAA administrator, despite growing opposition over his stances on aviation safety-related issues.
Following his departure, Republic's board of directors has named board chair David Grizzle as CEO and promoted Matt Koscal to president of Republic Airways, effective immediately.
Koscal, who joined Republic in 2014, has served in a variety of senior leadership roles, most recently as executive vice president and chief administrative officer. He was appointed president earlier this year as part of a planned transition and will continue to oversee the company’s operations and strategic initiatives including the company’s merger with Mesa Air Group.
Republic noted that this transaction remains on track to close later this year. To support Republic’s continued momentum during this period, the company has asked Grizzle, to serve as CEO during this transition.
