Boeing delivers two 787s to Japan Airlines

Japan Airlines received two 787s yesterday in Everett, making the carrier only the second to take delivery of the type. A ceremony at the Future of Flight at Paine Field included JAL, Boeing and General Electric Aviation executives.

The aircraft will be the first to fly commercially from the US, between Narita and Boston beginning April 22. JAL later plans to add flights between San Diego and Tokyo. The JAL 787s are the first to be powered by General Electric engines. Boeing received Federal Aviation Administration certification for 787-8s equipped with GEnx-1B engines earlier this month, clearing the way for delivery of JAL's aircraft yesterday. Japan Airlines has ordered 45 Dreamliners in all: 25 787-8s and 20 787-9s.
