American Airlines will provide free high-speed in-flight internet services from 2026, after confirming a new partnership with AT&T.
Beginning in January next year, American will offer complimentary Wi-Fi on all aircraft equipped with Viasat and Intelsat high-speed satellite connectivity, accounting for roughly 90% of the airline’s fleet.
American said the complimentary service will be available exclusively to members of its frequent-flyer program and that it was outfitting more than 500 of its regional aircraft for the launch.
“Our customers greatly value staying connected while in the air, whether communicating with friends, getting work done, checking in on social media or streaming their favourite subscription services,” said Heather Garboden, chief customer officer, American Airlines.
American Airlines becomes the latest US carrier to announce plans for high-speed in-flight internet connectivity. Delta Air Lines introduced free Wi-Fi for its frequent flyer members in 2023, while United Airlines is installing aircraft with Starlink connectivity.
