AirAsia X to expand into Europe with launch new service to Istanbul

AirAsia X will launch direct flights between Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul starting November 14, 2025, in a move that marks the carrier’s first expansion into Europe.

The new route will operate four times weekly, connecting Malaysia to Istanbul’s Sabiha Gökçen International Airport.

Speaking to Airline Economics in November 2024, Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X, noted that the airline was looking at expanding its network even further, with Ismail setting his sights on new frequencies to destinations in Europe.

“We are looking into Europe,” Ismail told Airline Economics. “Destinations such as London will be a bit tough on the A330s as it would mean having to do a tech stop on the way, but we are looking into a service to Istanbul.”

The expansion builds on the airline’s recent push into Central Asia and supports the carrier’s wider efforts to rebuild its global network after the pandemic.

“This is a strategic decision that strengthens our network, creates more pathways for business collaboration, and enhances access to new experiences for travellers around the world,” said Ismail.

The new service is also set to boost bilateral ties between Malaysia and Türkiye.
