In a recent interview Bjorn Kjos, chief executive officer Norwegian Air Shuttle, indicated plans to establish Buenos Aires as a hub in South America to connect with Oslo, London and Paris. He also stated that services to Madrid and Barcelona from the new South American hub were also possible, alongside domestic flights from Cordoba. Kjos is currently speaking with authorities in Santiago about possible routes. Norwegian flights to South America would be one quarter of the average fare currently. South America operations may begin with two 787s. To make long-haul low-cost flying work, Kjos said he will need to keep utilization rates high – for as many as 18 to 19 hours a day. He added that the airline also plans to operate routes connecting countries such as India and South Africa with the Americas via Europe.
