Air India to begin flight schedule restoration following "safety pause"

Air India will begin the partial restoration of flight schedules from August 1, following a temporary “safety pause” implemented after the crash of flight 171 in June.

The airline said the pause allowed for additional precautionary inspections of its 787 fleet and adjustments to longer flight times caused by airspace restrictions over Pakistan and the Middle East.

A week after the fatal crash of flight 171 in Ahmedabad, Air India reduced international services on widebody aircraft by 15%.

Air India will reinstate two weekly flights between Delhi and London Heathrow, with frequencies between Delhi and Zurich increasing from four to five flights per week starting August 1.

Additionally, the airline’s route from Delhi to Tokyo Haneda will return to daily service from August 1, while Delhi to Seoul Incheon will resume five weekly flights from September 1, following the reinstatement of two previously suspended services.

The airline also noted that it will operate three weekly flights between Ahmedabad and London Heathrow from August 1 to September 30, replacing the current five weekly services to London Gatwick during that period.

A full restoration is planned from October 1.
