Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced it will add a total of 42 aircraft to its fleet, consisting of 21 A350-900s, 11 A321neos and ten 787 Dreamliners. Deliveries will commence in 2027 and continue for approximately six years.
20 of the A350-900 aircraft – described as ‘the backbone of [the airline’s] domestic operations’ – will serve the carrier’s international routes, with JAL focusing on expanding its international network across north America, Asia and India. An additional domestically-configured A350-900 will be introduced to replace the example lost in January 2024.
Meanwhile, deliveries of the narrowbody types (scheduled to start in 2026) will gradually replace JAL’s 737-800 aircraft alongside augmenting the carrier’s existing fleet of 767s. The introduction of the A321neo marks the first time JAL has operated the type, which will be ‘strategically deployed on routes that align with demand, including to and from Haneda Airport,' starting from 2028.
