MTU Aero Engines has opened a new manufacturing hall in Munich. The building is 34 metres tall – the tallest at the site – and covers 14,000 square metres. “With this building, we are opening the world’s most modern, automated manufacturing hall for turbine disks,” said MTU Aero Engines chief operating officer Silke Maurer. The turbine disks will be manufactured for geared turbofan engines. It currently makes around 6,000 turbine disks per year, but hopes to double that number within the next decade. The building hosts a modern disk testing area and MTU’s own coating process, ERCoat.
