ZeroAvia and Scottish Power sign partnership to support zero-emission flights

ZeroAvia and Scottish Power have signed an agreement to co-develop a low carbon hydrogen supply to key airports in an effort to support aviation decarbonisation.

The partnership will explore airport hydrogen supply models and financing, as well as the companies also exploring clean power requirements and hydrogen production infrastructure for potential future ZeroAvia sites within Scottish Power’s distribution network areas in the UK.

“We welcome the opportunity to support the aviation industry in delivering effective solutions for this important sector, enabling long term sustainable and cost-effective outcomes,” said Scottish Power’s Green Hydrogen director Peter Jones.

Scottish Power’s energy operations are conducted with 100% renewable energy, powered by its wind farms. ZeroAvia also signed an agreement with Scotland-based Ecojet for 70 hydrogen-electric, zero-emissions engines in November 2023.

“Scotland has the chance to lead the UK in developing clean hydrogen supply,” said ZeroAvia chief business officer Sergey Kiselev. “Working with leading companies like Scottish Power can help us overcome fuelling infrastructure challenges.”

By 2030, the Scottish Government aims to have a 5GW production capacity for hydrogen and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 75%, making it a key playing field for the renewable energy industry.
