Wizz Air said has selected RTX's Pratt & Whitney as the engine supplier for 177 of its A321neo aircraft.

The Hungarian airline previously selected Pratt & Whitney's GTF engine to power 276 A320neo, A321neo and A321XLR aircraft in both 2016 and 2020, with this latest deal bringing their order total to 453 aircraft powered by GTF engines.

"Our relationship with Pratt & Whitney has been instrumental in supporting our growth strategy, which will enable Wizz Air to have a fleet of 500 aircraft within a decade,” said József Váradi, CEO of Wizz Air. “This agreement is in line with our customer first compass strategy which puts the customer in the focus also by providing the best-in-class aircraft technology with the lowest emission intensity per passenger kilometre."

Pratt & Whitney currently powers the airline's fleet of 163 A320neo family aircraft with GTF engines, and 73 A320ceo family aircraft with IAE V2500 engines.

The engine manufacturer will also provide Wizz with engine maintenance through a long-term service agreement.

This GTF engine order follows several deals that have already been made at the Paris Air Show. These include Frontier Airlines selecting GTF engines to power 91 A321neo aircraft, while Cebu Pacific signed a long-term maintenance services agreement for its GTF engine fleet.

Speaking to a media conference at the Paris Air Show, Rick Deurloo, president of Pratt commercial engines, stated the company anticipates doubling its GTF maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) output in 2026 compared to 2024 levels.

When asked about current challenges faced by the company, in relation to the recall and inspection programme of PW1100 engines, Deurloo stated that Pratt & Whitney is “right on track” to solving issues related to the engine type.

In addition, the airline received one A321neo from Aviation Capital Group (ACG), the lessor said on June 17, 2025. This is the seventh aircraft scheduled for delivery to the airline as part of a multiple sale and leaseback transaction between ACG and Wizz Air.
