Wizz Air becomes Europe’s first low-cost carrier to achieve IATA SEMS LEVEL II certification

Wizz Air has successfully attained Level II certification - the highest achievable for initial certification - under the IATA Security Management System (SeMS) program.

With the certification covering Wizz Air Hungary and Wizz Air Malta, it is the first low-cost carrier and only the second airline in Europe to attain this level of certification.

Certification for Wizz Air Group's UK operations is scheduled for the next phase of the programme, planned for next year.

The SeMS programme, developed by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), promotes a risk-based, performance-driven security culture across the aviation industry.

“SeMS is essential to shifting global aviation security from a compliance-based approach to one that proactively identifies and mitigates risks while driving continuous improvement," said Frederic Leger, SVP of products and services at IATA.

“Achieving this requires the full support of the air transport industry.”

Wizz Air operates a fleet of 249 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.
