Wizz Air said revenue trends for the first quarter of the fiscal year 2026, ending March 31, 2025, is “better than expected” in comparison to the same period a year prior. The airline said this is signalling a strong start to the fiscal year.
The European airline noted this in its February traffic update on March 5, 2025.
The company's February traffic increased 5.1%, carrying 4.6 million passengers during the month. This increase in passenger traffic is in line with a 3% jump in seat capacity, when compared to the year prior. Load factor was also up during the month, rising by 1.8 percentage points to 91.8%.
The airline added that negotiations on its selection of engines to power 177 A321neo aircraft are ongoing and is making “positive progress”. Wizz had originally selected the Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan (GTF) to power its A321neo fleet and is now also considering the CFM LEAP engine. Around 40 aircraft are forecast to be grounded for the fiscal year 2026 due to the well-documented GTF engine issues.
Wizz CEO Jozsef Varadi said he expects the GTF engine issue to be a “four to five year issue".
