Vistara takes delivery of 50th A320, resumes two international routes

Vistara recently welcomed its 50th aircraft, an A320 jet last month. The aircraft flew from Hamburg on February 28 and reached Delhi after about eight hours.

Vistara fleet mainly comprises of Airbus narrowbody that have joined the airline over the last few years. While Vistara will not order any new aircraft, it will still accept the aircraft from its previous orders. In January 2023, the airline announced that it will not order any new aircraft ahead of its proposed merger with Air India.

Vistara flies mainly on medium haul routes covering domestic destinations and international flights to Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The airline also recently acquired India's first Airbus A321LR, which can fly as far as 4,000 nautical miles and can accommodate 206 passengers by utilizing extra fuel in three Additional Centre Tanks. The airline has announced Mauritius as the first confirmed destination for the long-range A321.

The airline still has close to 10 Airbus A320s to be delivered and four more Boeing 787-9 airplanes, the deliveries of which should be completed by the end of 2024. Mostly by then the Vistara brand will cease to exist following its merger with Air India and the new aircraft will be a part of the merged airline.

The airline recently resumed its thrice-weekly Mumbai- Colombo and non-stop Mumbai-Dammam services from March 1, 2023 significantly increasing its international services from the city. Dammam will be Vistara's second destination in Saudi Arabia, complementing its 7x weekly connectivity between Mumbai and Jeddah.

Vinod Kannan, CEO, Vistara said: “We are delighted to commence operations to Dammam, a major administrative hub in Saudi Arabia and home to a large Indian diaspora. The addition of Dammam to our growing international network is in line with our goal to further strengthen our presence in the Middle East. Dammam will be the fifth Vistara destination in the region – after Dubai, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi and Muscat.”
