VietJet is reportedly set to sign a $200 million aircraft finance deal with partner of investment fund KKR at a meeting in the US next week, which will also be attended by Boeing, reported Reuters.
According to an internal schedule seen by the media outlet, VietJet executives would sign the financial agreement with AV Air Finance Company, a partner of KKR, at the Vietnamese embassy in Washington on April 9, 2025.
The financing deal is reportedly set to support the purchase of aircraft.
At the same event VietJet executives will meet Boeing representatives to discuss cooperation and "affirm commitment to expanding strategic relations," the document said.
Reuters noted that it is unclear whether this financing is meant to support a possible new order, or whether it would allow the airline to place a deposit for existing purchasing deals.
In 2016, VietJet finalised an order for 100 737 MAX 8 airplanes, which set the mark for the largest-ever single commercial airplane purchase in Vietnam aviation.
Two years later, the airline signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at the Farnborough Airshow for an additional 100 MAX jets. The agreement, which includes 80 737 MAX 10s and 20 MAX 8s, was valued at more than $12.7bn at the time of the sale.
The news of this financing comes days after the US imposed 46% reciprocal tariffs on Vietnamese-made goods, which are set to take effect from April 9, 2025.
