“Vertiport” development continues

Hot on the heels of Heathrow’s announcement yesterday to work with Vertical Aerospace to develop existing airport infrastructure to adapt to cater for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, Ferrovial Airports – which owns Heathrow airport as well as three more UK regional airports – has appointed a Chief Executive Officer to manage its new vertiports business.

As the CEO of Ferrovial Vertiports, Kevin Cox, will oversee the area that the company states will “promote a new form of more sustainable, efficient, and safe transport”.

With more than thirty years’ experience in the aviation sector, Cox will lead the new business area that will focus on the development of vertiport networks for the take-off, landing operation and maintenance of passenger services of electrical jet aircrafts.

Cox has served in executive leadership positions at: DFW International Airport, American Airlines, Signature Aviation and FBO Network.

“Kevin’s brings a wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of one of the most competitive aviation markets.  He will be instrumental in our ambitions to be a leader in providing high speed, affordable, emissions-free travel to millions of people, now, and it the future. I am delighted to have him in the team,” said Luke Bugeja, CEO of Ferrovial Airports.

“I am honoured to become part of the Ferrovial team and excited to lead the Vertiports business for this visionary company.  The ability to quickly and seamlessly travel to and from a Ferrovial Vertiport in an electric aircraft will forever change the urban transportation, and the Ferrovial team is on the forefront of this transformation,” Cox.

Vertiports are described as “intermodal centers” that are integrated into the city and adapted to the surroundings environment, reduce noise impact, allow zero operating emissions.

Ferrovial had already announced that it would develop a network of more than ten vertiports in the state of Florida, US, but is expanding the development with the new infrastructure to facilitate the implementation of a more sustainable and efficient mode of transportation in other US states and other markets.
