On February 12, the US Air Force downed what it said was an unidentified "object" flying at around 20,000 feet above Lake Huron, saying it could have interfered with commercial flights.
"I will let the intel community and the counterintelligence community figure that out," said General Glen Van Herck, when asked what the object was.
The US has shot down three unidentified objects, including one in Canadian airspace, since downing what it said was a Chinese spy balloon on February 4.
The balloon was described as flying too high to be a threat to commercial aircraft. The US closed three Atlantic seaboard airports and a chunk of nearby airspace as its air force geared to shoot the balloon down into the ocean, after deciding against doing so as it crossed the continental US during the previous week.
China said the balloon was a weather device gone astray and since accused the US of sending 10 balloons into its airspace since the start of 2022.
