The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has released its Air Travel Consumer Report (ATCR) on airline operational data compiled for the month of April this year for factors such as on-time performance and number of operated flights.
During April, 0.7% of flights were cancelled, that’s down 1% compared to 2023 levels and down 1.7% when compared to pre-pandemic levels in April 2019.
Operated flights were up 5.05% in comparison to the 586,353 flights operated in April 2023 and were down 1.24% from 623,409 flights operated in March 2024.
In terms of individual airline performance for the month, the report found that Allegiant Air had the best on time arrival rate of any US carrier with 85.8% of its flights arriving on time. When looking at the number of cancelled flights, Delta saw the lowest figures with 0.3% of the airline’s services being cancelled.
When looking at the opposite end of the scale, Frontier Airlines had the worst on time flight arrival record of 69.1% of flights arriving on time. The airline also had the highest percentage of cancelled flights, when compared to other US carriers, with 1.7% of flights not operating.
Further data also showed that out of 40 million bags that were processed throughout the month only 0.46% were reported as being mishandled, lower than the 0.52% reported the month prior in March.
