During the month of October, US scheduled service airlines used a total of 1.577bn gallons of fuel, 2.9% more fuel than in September and 2.3% more than in pre-pandemic October 2019.
Outlined by the US Department of Transportation’s Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), the cost per gallon of fuel in October 2024 totalled $2.29, this is down 1.7% from September. Total fuel expenditure for the month equated to $3.61bn, up 1.2% from the month prior.
Compared to the same period of the year prior, changes in fuel consumption and cost for October includes a 2.1% decrease in domestic fuel consumption, a 28.6% decrease in domestic fuel cost and a 27.1% decrease in cost per gallon.
