Universal Hydrogen completes full demonstration of AmpCart H2
Universal Hydrogen – a hydrogen fuel provider employing unique modular delivery technology – has completed the first operational demonstration of its AmpCart H2 product, developed in collaboration with Oshkosh AeroTech. The hydrogen delivery solution is described by its manufacturer as a ‘near-term solution to the shortage of charging infrastructure for electric ground support equipment at airports’, thus enabling every airport to be hydrogen-ready. The recent operational demonstration was carried out at Los Angeles’ Hawthorne Airport and involved the charging of two DHL electrified tractors with portable, rechargable hydrogen storage modules. “Charging of electric GSE is an important early step in the decarbonization of the overall aviation ecosystem,” said Paul Eremenko, chief executive officer, Universal Hydrogen. Noting that larger hydrogen aircraft won’t enter the market until the mid-2030s, but with operators still possessing “a clear and urgent need to decarbonize their operations,” chief commercial officer Rod Williams explained: “As these airlines shifted their focus to non-aviation emissions produced by the operation of GSE, we identified the ways in which our unique modular technology could be adapted to meet this need”.
