United Airlines 737 MAX 8 investigation probes ""stuck"" rudder pedal

The US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the February 6 United Airlines 737 MAX 8 flight 1539 that suffered “stuck” rudder pedals as it touched down for landing at Newark Liberty International Airport, Newark, New Jersey. In a preliminary report, the captain said that “the rudder pedals did not move in response to the ‘normal’ application of foot pressure while attempting to maintain the runway centreline.” The pedals had reportedly remained stuck in a neutral position. The captain had managed to use the nosewheel steering tiller to keep the aircraft in position while slowing to a safe taxi speed. All 155 passengers six crewmembers were deplaned without incident or injury. The captain reported that the rudder pedals began to operate normally after the incident and notified maintenance crew, before the aircraft was removed from service for maintenance.The NTSB’s review of preliminary flight data recorder information validated the pilot’s statements.
