UK startup – Global Airlines acquires Airbus A380 eyeing spring launch

Global Airlines, start-up UK airline has acquired an Airbus A380, one of the world’s largest passenger jets. It is the first new airline to own, not lease one of the double-decker superjumbos in nearly eight years.

The airline is planning to serve the transatlantic route from spring 2023.

“Acquiring our aircraft rather than leasing showcases our commitment to financial security and resilience from day one,” said James Asquith, Founder and Chief Executive, Global Airlines.

Most of the A380s fleet was put to long-term storage during the three pandemic-hit years. Experts believed that the A380 aircraft type would never make a comeback, due to newer and more fuel-efficient aircraft types. Aviation analysts believe that the airline is taking a huge risk by buying this aircraft model.

Global Airlines bought its plane from German aircraft finance company Doric Aviation. The airline did not reveal the cost of the plane.

The airline intends to fly from London to New York and Los Angeles from next spring

“Our aspiration is to be the best way to fly and the A380 with its unmatched levels of space, comfort and service will be absolutely central to achieving that vision. The purchase of our first aircraft demonstrates that we are well on the way to launching Global,” concluded Asquith.
