TRAVEL FIRMS OPPOSE AMERICAN AIRLINES NEW BOOKING SYSTEM

Over 125 US travel organisations, including Expedia, have joined a coalition, the Open Allies for Airfare Transparency, to oppose a new booking system launched by American Airlines.

The system tackles the current method used by major airlines to make fares public using a new direct link system. American Airlines says this is a better way to inform travellers of fee-based services like priority boarding, while cutting costs.

The coalition says the new system makes it harder for the public to find the best deals, because it bypasses the fare information pooled by multiple airlines.
