A train carrying six new B737 fuselages from their manufacturer in Kansas to the Boeing factory in Seattle, derailed in Montana on July 3rd, causing three of the fuselages to slide down an embankment into a river.
The recovery process is expected to last until at least July 8th.
Montana Rail Link spokeswoman Lynda Frost said: "The progress is going extremely slow. If we get one up today, it would appear it will take one day each to get them out."
Frost stated that a crew of 50 with eight heavy-lifting machines was working together to recover the three 737 fuselages. The other three fuselages on the train also fell off during accident, but did not slide into the river.
Boeing stated that it has sent staff to assess the damage. The accident is not expected to impact Boeing’s 737 production by a significant amount, as the Boeing is currently assembling up to 42 737s per month.
