TRAFFIC UP FOR SOUTHWEST AIRLINES IN APRIL

Revenue passenger miles for Southwest Airlines were 7 billion in April, an 8.7% increase from the 6.5 billion total in April 2010. The airline also reported 8.8 billion available seat miles during April, a 7.5% increase on last year’s figure of 8.2 billion. Load factor was relatively flat at 79.7% compared to 78.8% in April 2010.

The airline estimated that its passenger revenue per available seat mile increased in range of 4 to %.

For the first four months of 2011, Southwest flew 26.2 billion revenue passenger miles, an 11% increase over the 23.6 billion revenue passenger miles during the same period in 2010. Also, available seat miles rose 8.1% to 33.3 billion during the same four months in 2010 when it was 30.8 billion.
