Tokyo's Haneda Airport has introduced 50 new international slots in anticipation of next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Seven countries including China, Russia and Australia have been granted 26 of the 50 new slot available.
Finland, India, Italy and Turkey have also been handed slots. While one region, either Scandinavia, Sweden or Denmark is likely to get the regional opening, transport ministry officials said.
The United States will take the remaining 24 slots.
The new slots will enter daily service at Haneda - which will officially change its name to Tokyo International Airport from March 2020.
Meanwhile, officials have said that flights to and from China will receive eight slots, those to and from Russia and Australia will get four each, and the others will get two each.
Half of the 50 slots will be allocated to Japanese airlines, with All Nippon Airways landing 13.5 of them and Japan Airlines getting 11.5.
