Thai Airways is the latest airline to introduce tighter regulation in regard to power bank usage on its flights.
Effective from March 15, 2025, the use of power banks will be prohibited while onboard the airlines aircraft. Thai Airways said that this decision follows a number of in-flight fires suspected to be linked to power bank usage.
In January, an Air Busan flight caught on fire before departing Gimhae International Airport in Busan, with investigators identifying a power bank as the likely cause of the fire. Similarly in February, a power bank overheated and ignited on a Batik Air flight while on approach to Bangkok.
“These measures are implemented to ensure the highest level of safety for passengers and crew,” the airline said in a statement on its website.
Thai Airways joins AirAsia, EVA Air and China Airlines in banning the use of power banks onboard flights.
