TAP Air Portugal to move operations to JFK Terminal 6 in 2026

TAP Air Portugal will relocate its operations at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to the new Terminal 6 when the facility opens later in 2026, joining a group of international carriers at the site.

The airline will operate from Terminal 6 as part of its phase one opening, alongside codeshare partner JetBlue and Star Alliance members including Air Canada, ANA, Avianca, Lufthansa and Swiss. Other airlines set to operate from the terminal include Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Condor, Frontier, Icelandair, Kuwait Airways and Norse.

TAP has served the New York market for more than 50 years and currently operates daily nonstop flights between JFK and Lisbon using Airbus A330neo and A321neo aircraft. Its operations will continue as normal until the planned move.

Terminal 6 is being developed by JFK Millennium Partners as part of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19bn redevelopment of JFK Airport. The wider project includes the construction of two new terminals, upgrades to two existing terminals, a new ground transportation centre and a redesigned road network.

The terminal, which is under construction, will open in phases, with the first six gates scheduled to begin operations in 2026 and full completion expected by 2028. It will include 10 gates, nine of which will accommodate widebody aircraft.

Passengers using Terminal 6 will have access to a range of features including biometric-enabled self-service bag drop, retail and dining space, lounges, and a layout designed to enable an average walk of less than five minutes from security to departure gates.
