Sunrise Airways has expanded its service to Cuba yesterday, February 29, 2016, with the launch of its first-ever flights to Camaguey. The new route is the first to feature the carrier’s new 46-seat ATR 42-320 aircraft, which was added to the Sunrise fleet February 26, 2016.
“These new flights to Camaguey build upon the success of our regularly scheduled service to Santiago de Cuba, which has performed very well since its initial launch in October 2014,” said Philippe Bayard, President of Sunrise Airways. “Over the long term, we intend to spread our wings to more of Cuba than any other international airline. Adding larger aircraft types to our fleet, like our new ATR 42, puts us in a strong position to move forward in that direction now.”
New Sunrise Airways flights to/from Camaguey will operate twice per-week.
Meanwhile, Skyworld Aviation has arranged a long term ACMI agreement between Danish Air Transport (DAT) of Denmark and Sunrise Airways of Haiti. The aircraft, an ATR 42-320 (serial number 112), is due to start operations in early March and the contract will continue into late 2017.
Sunrise Airways currently operates a fleet of three 19 seat Jetstream 32 aircraft, serving Porte au Prince, Cap Haitien, Santo Domingo and Santiago de Cuba. In 2015, Sunrise was the first Haitian airline to be awarded a Part 129 Operating Permit which upgraded the airline from ad-hoc/charter services to scheduled service status. The introduction of the ATR equipment will allow Sunrise to serve longer haul routes more effectively in its Western Caribbean route network, in particular Santiago de Cuba, Cuba. The airline also plans to serve Jamaica and Turks and Caicos Islands in the near future.
